The Fairy Queen once visited me.
She didn’t stay long, said it was only a dream.
She had a sweet face and moonlit hair,
Drops of dew were dancing here and there.
She said life can be oh so sweet.
She smiled, but her eyes looked sad to me.
I was walking by the pond wishing for sand and sea when she happened upon me.
She told me stories of ducklings running on clumsy feet,
of caterpillars always looking for something to eat,
of joy that left crinkles around the eye, and elephants that wished to fly.
She told me of twig homes bound together with twine,
of coin tossed wishes, and mulled wine.
She spoke of laughter and twinkling bells, of ribbon and rainbows, magical carousels.
When she spoke her voice was that of a mourning dove's wail.
She whispered of sea shells and moss covered stone, of lamb's ear, iris, and rose,
the sweetness of honey and the coldness of snow.
She danced with autumn leaves swirling to and fro.
The Fairy Queen once visited me. She didn’t stay long,
I’m certain it wasn’t a dream.
